Ensuring the electrical systems in your home are safe is crucial for your protection. The most effective way to verify this is by having a qualified electrician perform an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR). In the UK, homeowners should schedule an EICR every 10 years, while rented properties require testing every five years. It's also advisable to have an EICR carried out before selling a property, providing potential buyers with insight into the condition of the electrics. Commercial buildings often require more frequent inspections, and certain properties, such as thatched roof houses, may need an EICR for insurance purposes.

What Happens During an EICR?
An EICR consists of two main components: visual inspections and electrical testing. During the visual check, we examine your sockets, lights, and switches for signs of wear or damage. We also inspect the wiring, bonding, earthing, and the condition of your consumer unit, making sure everything complies with current safety standards. You can learn more about the process by watching our future YouTube video that breaks down the details of an EICR.
Electrical testing involves passing a current through your circuits to check the earthing resistance and insulation of the wiring. We also confirm correct polarity (ensuring wires are correctly connected) and verify that the RCD (Residual Current Device) functions as it should, tripping within the required time.
After the inspection, we provide a comprehensive report, which can also be shared with insurers or tenants if necessary. If any safety issues are identified, we’ll include photographs in the report, clearly showing the problem areas. Along with this, you’ll receive a free, detailed quote for any necessary repairs.
